Day 4 - Christmas Shopping

 Day 4 - Christmas Shopping

Simplicity itself, I feel. What could be better on a frosty, December day than go Christmas shopping. You've saved your pennies carefully over the year and are now ready to spend, spend, spend on the high street. The only requisite is you go in December, otherwise the experience isn't festive enough. (Naturally, I'm harking back to the days when the high street was a thing and Radio One DJs who hadn't been embroiled in scandal advertised music centres on sale in Woolworths.)

Once back at home, the bows, ribbons and wrapping paper would come out from the box under the bed, the end of the roll of Sellotape discovered by a carefully scraped fingernail and a new pack of invitations to whatever party was being planned conscientiously, written in your best biro handwriting.

These were the days of bath salts, liquorice allsorts, a pen and pencil set, a comb and shaving brush, a 25 pence postal order as presents. Oh ... and this ...Good days.

All the money put away
Saved for a rainy day
Count all the pennies you saved
November is over, December's begun
There's just one thing left to say

Let's go shopping
Christmas shopping

All the presents wrap and hide
Coloured ribbons, bows are tied
Count invitations to write
December is colder, memories begin
There's just one thing on my mind

Let's go shopping
Christmas shopping
